More Aphorisms

Pam/ February 17, 2010/ Blogroll, Fun Stuff, Random Thoughts

I have been telling my “aphorism story” over and over since my experience at the Penny Stamps Lecture last Thursday. Have also been searching out different aphorisms. Here are a few that I ran across today while looking for something completely different/unrelated! Enjoy! ~Besides the noble art of getting things done, master the noble art of leaving things undone. Random Observations

Pam/ February 14, 2010/ Around Ann Arbor

One of my new year’s resolutions was to walk/bike three times a week. I’ve been doing that at the Ann Arbor YMCA and on my way around the track I’ve observed my fellow walkers/runners … and then some. Here are some random thoughts/observations. ~Interesting to watch the different ways people run. Some on their toes, one barefoot, one in stocking

Aphorisms

Pam/ February 12, 2010/ Around Ann Arbor

James Geary is a writer/journalist, American born, living in London. Actually, he calls himself an aphorist. He spoke on aphorisms and was quite entertaining. He seemed quite comfortable on stage and is a good presenter. He’s obviously done this before. He talked about aphorisms, what they are, what they aren’t, and quoted some examples along the way. While on stage,

Pam/ February 6, 2010/ Around Ann Arbor

Last night I went to the library to hear Ben Huh speak. Ben is founder of failblog.org and icanhascheezburger.com. He did a nice job at explaining this (apparent) phenomenon of icanhascheezburger.com and failblog.org. I didn’t really get it before his talk (I’m not a fan) and at least intellectually got it after his talk. Pictures of cats with misspelled captions

The Girl Who Played with Fire

Pam/ February 6, 2010/ Books

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was hard to get into and then, when I finally finished, I didn’t like any of the characters. It’s one of those books (and apparently series) that has caught the attention of readers … and I can’t quite understand it. My book discussion group read Dragon and, in March, will be discussing Fire. I

Peace Like a River by Leif Enger

Pam/ January 25, 2010/ Books

I loved every word of this book. Enger has a talent with words, sentences, and crafting a story. At times, I didn’t care about the plot … just loved reading his words, descriptions, and the “declarations” of the characters. I’ve also read “So Brave, Young and Handsome”. His words are, as I like to say, like chocolate for my eyes.

Thursday I went to the Distinguished Lecture at the Michigan Theater. Each Thursday of the U of M school year the School of Art and Design hosts a distinguished lecturer for the A&D students. These lectures are free and open to the public – sponsored by a number of folks with the main benefactor being Penny Stamps. The lectures are

New Year’s Resolutions – Part Two

Pam/ January 17, 2010/ Uncategorized

In my post last week I forgot to mention the strategy a couple of my friends use. Instead of specific resolutions, they pick a theme for the year. So, for instance, one friend is intent on “Connecting” more this year (in fact, more than one friend). For another, this is the year of “Finesse”. Just more food for thought in

New Year’s Resolutions

Pam/ January 10, 2010/ Random Thoughts

I have my own new year’s resolutions (writing this blog is one of them … yikes it’s been a long time) and when talking and reading about new year’s resolutions there seems to be a couple of approaches. First, new year’s resolutions “are cheesy”. That was the declaration from one of my friends at the New Year’s Eve party I

Movies

Pam/ June 2, 2009/ Movies

Over the Memorial Day weekend we watched a couple of movies. Both were, I thought, good enough to recommend. Red Eye – Has a female hero. There are a few ridiculous laugh out loud parts – but part of watching a movie is suspending belief. Tell No One – It’s in French so you have to work at it (reading
