Deadwood – Reflections

Pam/ August 25, 2011/ Random Thoughts, Travel

As we left Deadwood we made a list of our reflections – one word, phrases, or general impressions. Liked it better as time went on – first impression was “tacky” Loved the old buildings Public library needs a new microfilm reader Friendly Steeped in history Pedestrian friendly Safe Biker friendly (no helmet law in SD)

Driving the windy road from Spearfish Canyon to Deadwood we had an opportunity to site see from the car. We passed a restaurant called “Pizza Lab” and Mom said “That doesn’t sound good at all! Is their pizza an experiment”? We drove through Lead which is home of the Lead-Deadwood High School who are The Diggers! How perfect!

Fargo, August 18, 2011

Pam/ August 18, 2011/ Random Thoughts, Travel

I’m in Fargo again, the second time in a month. Flying in today the pilot approached from the north, which is unusual. In my memory the flight has approached from the south, flying over the entire city, right by the Fargo Dome and into Hector International. The flight pattern today allowed me to have a fabulous view of the patchwork

Caught!

Pam/ May 30, 2011/ Around Ann Arbor, Random Thoughts

Almost a week ago I spotted a ground hog in my front yard. When I asked him/her “Where do you think you’re going?” it went right under the front porch. I borrowed a live trap and so far I’ve caught a neighborhood cat and, yesterday, a young raccoon. At least I haven’t caught any skunks (so far)!

Slow and Steady Wins the Race

Pam/ May 29, 2011/ Around Ann Arbor, Random Thoughts

I’m considering entering a 5K Run and Walk next weekend. The Dexter-Ann Arbor race is a big deal here with a LOT of runners. I’m a walker, not a fast one, and not competitive when it comes to physical activity. My walk goal for May was to walk 30 miles. And, with just two days left I’m shy about four

Meals Alone

I very much liked “Out Stealing Horses” by Per Petterson, a book in which I found several quotes that resonated with me. The main character has his own set of rules. I have some of my own “Pam Rules”, part of my personal code, that come in really handy when I’m out of sorts or in a place where I

Talking

Pam/ March 26, 2011/ Books, Random Thoughts

Here’s another line from “Out Stealing Horses” by Per Petterson (page 167) “I wonder whether that is how we get after living alone for a long time, that in the middle of a train of thought we start talking out loud, that the difference between talking and not talking is slowly wiped out, that the unending, inner conversation we carry

Sharing

Over the last many, many months I’ve been really thinking about friendships, relationships, how well I know other people and how well others know me. I thought this passage from “Out Stealing Horses” by Per Petterson summed things up nicely. “People like it when you tell them things, in suitable portions, in a modest, intimate tone, and they think they

Skunk

Pam/ May 3, 2010/ Around Ann Arbor, Random Thoughts

About a month or more ago I saw a ground hog walk up the front walk, eat some birdseed, and then slip under the porch. Last fall I trapped and released (with the help of my friend, Farmer Dan) two other groundhogs. I’m happy to live in harmony with these animals, but my friends and coworkers warn me about the

Letter Writing Month

Pam/ April 5, 2010/ Blogroll, Random Thoughts

April is National Card and Letter Writing Month and I just finished writing my first card/letter of the month. Writing a letter a week is one of my New Year’s Resolutions so, I’ve been writing them every week this year. National Card and Letter Writing Month is an annual effort to promote literacy and to celebrate the art of letter
