For a few hours my friends and I drove around Ann Arbor hitting garage sales. Last night I used gsalr.com to organize our route. It’s a great site and did a pretty good job at giving directions. There were a few times where the route wasn’t exactly the most efficient, but only a few times. The site is easy to

Fortunes

Pam/ May 22, 2009/ Around Ann Arbor, Art, Fun Stuff

Friday, May 29 Washington Street Gallery (now on Main Street) is hosting an opening of Valerie Mann’s latest art work. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Valerie a couple of times. She’s one of those people I instantly like – she’s friendly, creative, supportive, cute and funny. “Fortunes” is an installation piece of 50 vintage children’s gowns with ‘fortunes’ embroidered

County Farm Park

Pam/ May 19, 2009/ Around Ann Arbor, Random Thoughts

Yesterday I dropped my car off at Select Auto Care for an oil change. While I was waiting, I wandered across the street to the County Farm Park. It’s a nice, quiet piece of land with three walking paths, half a mile, one mile, a mile and a half. The longer path has ‘exercise stations’ along the way. Does anyone

Morning Walk

Pam/ May 8, 2009/ Around Ann Arbor

I pulled myself out of bed for a morning walk today. This is a nice time of year and a nice time of day – cool, quiet, with lots of flowering trees for my nose and birds for my ears. Speaking of birds, I saw what looked like an albino Robin. It was the size of a robin, the shape

Daylight

Pam/ April 23, 2009/ Around Ann Arbor

As winter fades to spring the number of daylight hours increases and, although I have certainly noticed earlier sunrises and later sunsets I was surprised to see that the number of daylight hours is almost 14! Quantified like that I was somewhat surprised! Pleasantly surprised! Looking forward to a (predicted) 80 degree weekend.

Just Desserts

The Ann Arbor Library does a terrific job at having programs. Tonight I went to the Multi-Purpose Room in the basement of the downtown library for Just Desserts with Chef Isabella Nicoletti. Chef Isabella cooks at Paesano’s on Washtenaw Avenue in Ann Arbor. She is Italian and has been in the USA for about 14 years. When she came to

UMMA

Pam/ April 7, 2009/ Around Ann Arbor

After $40 million and almost three years the UMMA on State Street in Ann Arbor has re-opened. I can’t believe I haven’t been there in almost three years (I never got to the “UMMA Offsite”). The new building is open, beautiful and is, of course, full of beautiful works of art. I had no idea they had works by Picasso,

JT Abernathy has a show at Clay Gallery on Main Street in Ann Arbor. He’s a long time Ann Arbor resident potter who has his own style. Stephanie Izard

Pam/ March 15, 2009/ Around Ann Arbor, Cooking

Stephanie Izard, winner of Top Chef Season Four, gave a cooking demonstration at the Ann Arbor Library. The room was packed with over 150 people and there were 170 up on the third floor viewing the demo via live feed. She has a winning smile, was very personable, and answered questions the crowd asked. Although she shared what she made,
