Detroit to San Jose, Costa Rica

The flights to Atlanta and then to San Jose were a piece of cake. We arrived in San Jose right on time. There were at least two planes arriving with tourists which filled the immigration lines. It took us about an hour to get through the line, and Bev’s passport was stamped for the first time.

A Gate 1Travel porter got our luggage and we met four of our fellow travel mates, Rachel and Bri from Salt Lake City, and Joe and Carolyn from Rhode Island. Our porter handed us off to Mercedes, who called for our van and Henry arrived curbside with a eight person van. Almost immediately upon our exit of the airport we were pulled over by the police. It seemed like a routine sort of check, asking only for the driver’s license.

Soon enough we were on our way to the hotel, the Radisson Europa, about eight blocks from the center of San Jose. Ricardo is our guide for the entire trip and he welcomed us, got us checked in and invited us to come to a welcome/orientation meeting that evening. He gave us a recommendation for a restaurant, Spoon, in the downtown area and we took off.
