9 January – Vida Verde the Spanish School
I like my Spanish teacher, Martha, a lot. She is patient, 49, single, without children. Today we covered about three or four weeks of my eight week class that I took this fall. Almost all the concepts we covered today were familiar.
The school is sort of a hodge podge building with apparently not enough rooms. Martha and I were at a table and chairs in the upstairs landing today. The sink in the kitchen was full of dirty dishes and the garbage cans were full. The courtyard was sunny at break time, but there arent any chairs to sit in so we sat on the steps.
The part that seems to be missing are those house keeping sort of things I expected a sort of orientation with a city map, some tidbits about Quito (where to not go, how to ride the bus), a tour of the building, a schedule of how the day might go, as well as a that same sort of thing from Hipatia, my hostess, (what time is dinner, when does the laundry get done). I got some of that from Kathleen, one of the other women also staying here at Hipatias. It was nice of Kathleen to clue me in, although she probably wouldnt have unless I asked. So, Im going with the flow trusting things will come clear.
