Characters of Ecuador: Patrico

Pam/ January 4, 2012/ Travel

Wide faced, dark hair, Andean looking and a good driver, Patricio took me to and from the hotel/airport. It was very late when I landed yet he was patient and gracious with me, speaking easy slow Spanish and enough English to have short conversations. And when I didn’t understand and we ran out of topics the silence was comfortable.

Traffic is heavy during the day in Quito. There is an orderlessness to the traffic with pedestrians crossing in the middle of the street winding their way through stopped traffic. It makes the hoopala in Ann Arbor over the pedestrian crosswalks seem ridiculous.
When Patricio showed up in the morning he was dressed in pair of pressed pants and shirt smelling like cologne. I told him he was guapo (handsome). When he dropped me off at the airport we hugged and he kissed me on the cheek and wished me happy travels.
